Microsoft Access or Microsoft Office Access is a widely used database management program. It combines Microsoft Jet Database Engine with software-development tools and a user-friendly graphical interface. It stores data on the Access Jet Database Engine and can directly link to the other databases and application. The software facilitates the user to create database and store the information in an organized manner. It offers a visual interface to create tables, SQL queries and custom forms. Data can be easily entered into the MS Access by using a basic spreadsheet interface or visual forms. Information stored can be effortlessly accessed or browsed from Web services and other related programs. The tool is compatible with other spreadsheet programs and can easily send and receive data from Fox Pro, Oracle, MSSQL, Filemaker Pro and other databases. Microsoft Access uses .MDB as a file extension. Why does a MS Access file get corrupt? Sometimes a valuable file can become worthless. The database files are too heavy and has a large amount of information, if we try to open it time and again possibility is that we might damage it. Besides, it may damage due to various reasons, including application errors, multi-user access, virus infection, ineffective database design, accidental crash in the hard drive and many others. Ways to prevent corruption of databases: Install latest service packs of JET and Access Before creating a database file, turn off Name AutoCorrect Include a textbox for every field in the LinkChildFields property of your subforms Disallow multiple developers to change objects in one file at the same time While the text module is running, do not edit the text Create backup copy and regularly compact the file Split the database How to Recover? To retrieve all the lost data, I suggest you to use the ‘Compact and Repair’ utility. To run ‘Compact and Repair ‘ follow below mentioned steps: On the Tools menu find ‘Database Utilities’ Click ‘Compact and Repair Database’ Search for ‘Database to Compact from’ navigate and double-click the database that you want to compact and repair Click ‘Save’ When you use ‘Compact and Repair Utility’, system replaces the existing file with a compacted one.
